Dimitri from Paris - Cruising Altitude

Dimitri from Paris: the story of a devil of a Frenchman, born in Turkey, of Greek parentage, today having forged an International reputation as a truly French icon, like a bottle of No. 5 or a bag covered in monograms.

The second album is always the hardest, especially when the first was a runaway success like Sacrebleu, considered by one and all to be a must-have classic. Cruising Attitude is one of those albums that grow on you after several listens, once you have let its unique flavour take hold in your spirit. More intimate than dance, more unplugged than electronic, this new opus reveals Dimitri’s full musical maturity.

Aptly named with its cruising attitude covering a wide range from deceptively Disco titles (Not Quite Disco, Live Jazz, Paris Brooklyn), including gentler Jazzy moments (Okinawa Love, Merumo, Toi Mon Auto) through to a timeless cover of Syracuse (one of Dimitri’s favourite tracks) with Pink Martini putting in a special guest appearance.

The guest list will take you to London with Omar and Victor Davies, Paris with Helena Noguerra, New York and Portland with the Masters at Work and Pink Martini, not forgetting Tokyo with Maki Nomiya from the Pizzicato Five and lastly Caracas with Los Amigos Invisibles, a forefront group from Latin America.

A timeless album, drawing on and swirling up a host of genres and other essential features of so-called “electronic” music. Shedding samples, Dimitri leaves plenty of elbow room for orchestra compositions and meaningful meetings with talented
musicians. With travel-inspired influences and nostalgia for an era in which taking wing with an Air France Caravelle was a fully-blown adventure, like becoming an air-hostess, every young girl’s dream.

David Morales - 2 Worlds Collide

Known for his blistering DJ sets, timeless original productions and crafty remixes, David Morales is the undisputed king of NYC house music.

2 World's Collide is his first proper artist album in more than a decade.

Styles shift between the disco glitterati of Here I Am and Feels Good to more contemporary prog stormers like the brilliant lead single How Would U Feel and the superb U Came.

Morales' production is right on, and his use of a wide range of vocalists limits any chance for monotony.

While Morales could easily work with many different luminaries on this album, he chose instead to work with younger talents.

The album includes songs from co-writers and vocalists Lea-Lorién, Tamra Keenen, and Angela Hunte.Lead single is the infectious anthem How Would You Feel- A song that in demo form ripped up the dance floors in Ibiza and around the world this Summer.

Unclassics

Morgan Geist, one half of the acclaimed production duo Metro Area and owner of the innovative Environ label, has lovingly assembled this debut DJ mix featuring a selection of his favorite obscure electronic funk and disco tracks from 1978-1985.

Unclassics will thrill dusty-fingered disco connoisseurs, hip lifestylers and electro neophytes alike. It’s a perfectly-mixed fix of rare Italodisco (Alexander Robotnick-produced “Go On Do It” by Victor or Plastic Mode’s “Baja Imperial”), hot European boogie (Geist’s own remix of Dance Reaction’s “Disco Train”), and even Soviet cosmic funk (Zoviet’s “Pacific”) blended together seamlessly and incorporating Geist’s studio mastery.

Such spaced-out rarities (most available for the first time on CD) have turned heads and opened minds when played in sets from innovative DJs like Metro Area, disco don Daniel Wang (Balihu), & cult hero DJ Harvey (ex-Ministry of Sound) .

Despite the newest of these tracks approaching 20 years old, the playful experimentation and raw grooves sound fresher than most of the music being played in clubs today. This collection is guaranteed to stay ahead of the DJ mix CD curve with its innovative selection, painstaking remastering and eye-catching design by Julian Morey (Factory Records, The Haçienda, VOGUE).

This year The Body Shop will campaign across Australia to Help Stop Violence in the Home, with the aim to raise $100,000. The Body Shop aims to raise awareness of the issue across the country and in doing so hopes to demonstrate that domestic violence is an issue that needs to be owned by the whole community. The Help Stop Violence in the Home campaign was launched in stores nationally on July 12 2004.

To raise money for community agencies that support people affected by domestic violence, The Body Shop will sell ‘Campaign One’ through its stores. -the cd will sell for $15, $8 of which will be donated to local support services.

Domestic violence is not just about broken bones and bruises. It includes verbal, emotional, financial, sexual and physical abuse. In fact, any behaviour that physically or mentally hurts someone, or makes them scared of being harmed, is a form of violence. The violence has no boundaries and it happens to people of all ages, from all ethnic, cultural, religious, social and economic backgrounds. Domestic violence is a crime, punishable by law. It is not a ‘private’ family matter that should be suffered in silence.

 Jazzanova ...Mixing

In between remixes and being remixed, Jazzanova decided to take the next step: do a mix cd to complete the circle. DJ and Club culture s where Jazzanova come from and it is still a source of inspiration for them and their music.

The structure of the mix is similar to Jazzanova's dj sets, a warm up, prime time, "thanks, it was nice with you". Their DJ style is very much influenced by those eclectic radio sets from the likes of Gilles Peterson and Patrick Forge, who put the focus on a song orientated mix rather than mixing track after track.

This mix features soulful R&B from Jill Scott, weird electronica and a lot of classics like Carol Williams and Bahamadia.

Many tracks were exclusively produced for this mix. These exclusives are the remixes by Atjazz and Âme of Jazzanova's Dance The Dance and Glow and Glare. This is the first 12" release from the cd (SK025). More fresh nuggets come from the hard discs of Sonar Kollektivs' own Extended Spirit, Slope and Mr. Georg Levin. Jazzanova also found some hard to get and unreleased tracks like Dimlite's rarely seen "Sponsored by the Alphabet" and Dixon's remix of "The Quest" by Attica Blues.

Bridging the gaps with some nice tools is also one of Jazzanova's favourite pastimes. Jazzanova "L.O.V.E. Beats", Phoojun "Rainbow" and Oba Funke's acapella all change and manipulate the athmosphere, the vibe and especially the tempo of Jazzanova's sets.

Jazzanova present an excentric mix full of their favourite 'genre hopping' musical variety.

Rounding things out, they've done a cover of Patrice Rushen, one of their favourite artists - Let Your Heart Be Free featuring the vocals of Nicola Kramer, Georg Levin and Clara Hill and will be the second single release from this mix.

This is it: Jazzanova's taste, it's what they do, it's what they're all about.

Barcelona - The Sex, The City, The Music

Barcelona– The Sex, The City, The Music offers strictly hip Spanish sounds featuring; The Pinkertones booty shake’n grand funk-fantastique - Mais Pourquoi (BCN mix by Ursula 1000), Macaco’s super hip-hop Pirata de Agua Salada, the straight-up feel good grooves with Shivasound’s track Nada and the put it into 5th gear - Intro Funk by Funk Empire.

This collection delivers a modern Hispanic soundtrack.

Infatuated with design and fashion, Barcelona has become the ultra-hip and new European powerhouse of cool. Looking more towards Paris and London, Barcelona manages to pack a mighty punch despite its compact size. Sunset parties on the beach, late-night tapa’s in ancient plazas, clubs which close long after the sun comes up… this city pulses to the beat of the Mediterranean lifestyle. Great food, fine wine, beautiful people, gothic splendor, modernist dreams… a land where the siesta is still alive and kicking… where the days are hot, and the nights are long…

Barcelona’s small creative hub seems to crystallize its many attributes into a brilliant urban gem, it counts modern masters like Picasso, Gaudi, Tapies and Miro among its best-known cultural exports.

Barcelona exudes a spirit of optimism, modernity and innovation that shines from the depths of the Barri Gotic to the heights of Tibidabo. It is a city that is inconceivable until you get there, unbelievable while you walk its streets and unforgettable after you’ve gone…

The influences in putting together the music for Barcelona- The Sex, The City, The Music were: Afternoon siestas, midnight dinners, La Ramblas, Gaudi, lunchtime paellas, Parc Guell, La Sigrada Familia, Bohemian cocktails, sassy Spanish ladies, stiff free-poured mixes, feverish flamenco routines, feisty corrida, late-night tapas, hidden galleries, Balearic living, good coffee, street artists, late night lovin’, high class pensions, stylized graffiti, ancient plazas, underground clubs, sophisticated cool and modern urban lifestyle living.

Ben Watt - Buzzin' Fly Volume 1

20 years in Everything But The Girl, 5 years in Lazy Dog, …now Buzzin' Fly!!

Everything But The Girl's Ben Watt presents his new deep house mix CD, his first since the massively successful Lazy Dog series, drawing on the emergent talent of his burgeoning underground label, Buzzin' Fly Records and the spirit of his recently opened West London club, Neighbourhood.
The 11 track 70 minute CD contains four unreleased Buzzin' Fly gems, one brand new exclusive Watt remix and six rare hand-picked licenses from the underground deep house scene.

Highlights include Ben Watt's own brand new upcoming Buzzin' Fly single, 'A Stonger Man', featuring Sananda Maitreya (previously known as Terence Trent D'Arby), Charles Webster's exclusive new remix of Justin Martin's 2003 hit for Buzzin' Fly 'The Sad Piano', Sandy Rivera's tender-tough original mix of Cue's overlooked diamond 'Dreaming Of You', Ben Watts remix of Tonight by Low, & Martin Solveig's swooning re-work of the Soldiers Of Twilight classic, 'Believe'.

 Jay-J - Loveslapped Volume 3

After two successful volumes in their Loveslapped By series, the San Francisco house makers known as Loveslap! Recordings throw it into high gear, starting the New Year off right with a CD from one of the most revered and sought after American names in the business, Jay-J. 2003 Grammy nominee for Best Remixer, Jay-J compiles and mixes songs from his favorite artists and labels. A far cry from the scores of bland deep house CD's released over the past few years, Loveslapped Vol. 3 is just as addictive as it is enjoyable.

Over the past decade, Jay-J has established a reputation as a producer with the "Midas Touch". Opening Moulton Studios in 1998, Jay-J has released records on nearly every noteworthy house label from around the world, and has had an indelible impact on the sound of San Francisco dance music. As a DJ, Jay-J is known around the world for drawing huge crowds and playing soulful anthems to devastating effect. He brings his attention to detail and quality to every gig, proving he's every bit as potent in the booth as he is in the studio.

Let's be clear: it's the music itself that makes this mix so special. Jay-J includes several of the tracks he's done for Loveslap including the brand new disco soul stepper "Higher Ground". Llorca makes the role call with his excellent funk guitar punctuated mix of Miss Mee's "Surprise Me." The previously unreleased More Vox Mix of Kaskade's garage sizzler "It's You It's Me" sees some well deserved light of day. Movido's wicked reworking of K. Hand's "Get Down" steps up for some serious instrumental business as the disc's energy level is cresting. All killer no filler…

This is the music Jay-J makes, it's the music he plays and above all, it's the music he loves. It's soul music with an eye toward the future, music you can listen to, music to DANCE to...
