Body Language Volume 2

Get Physical co-founder DJ T aka Thomas Koch follows M.A.N.D.Y's first Body Language mix from last year with his first ever mix compilation. Get Physical may have built a name as the reigning king of electro-house, but that doesn't stop label head DJ T. from reaching out with a broader sound on his second mix. ‘Body Language Vol. 2' moves through the many shades and sounds of modern house and techno, picking up techno, electro, Italo and minimal influences along the way.
Like it's predecessor, Body Language 2 roams outside of Berlin with respect given to the British electrohouse contingent (Spektrum, Serge Santiago) Cologne's Kompakt (DJ Koze, Gui Boratto) and Detroit techno (Carl Craig, The Other People Place, aka recently deceased Drexciya member James Stinson.)

He looks to Detroit for the warm, weeping bass and mournful vocal of the mix opener, The Other People Place's ‘Let Me Be Me' and the euphoric Carl Craig remix of ‘Falling Up' by Theo Parrish midway through. In contrast, the finale comes from the other side of the world, namely Germany, as the smart acid rework by Isoleé of Villalobos's melancholic ‘What You Say...' and a warm, snaking remix by DJ Koze of Heiko Voss's pop techno standard, ‘I Think About You' combine for an exquisite, emotional climax.

In between these opposing locations there are gems and future classics, 1998's haunting vocal house of DJ Naughty's remix of Stella's Extralife is picked as well as the dirty, bleepy Chicago groove of ASP's Reality Check, the moody bass and Italo chords of Tensnake's Around The House, and the subtle trance builds of Gui Boratto's Arquipelago on Kompakt.

The German DJ's production skills are also in the spotlight with the inclusion of the evocative yet moody Marsha by Einzelkind, the first release on Get Physical's new label Kindisch, as well as his own tripped out collaboration with label mates Booka Shade, Played Runner and M.A.N.D.Y's slick percussive remix of Tiefschwarz's Damage.
First glance at the many unfamiliar names on Body Language 2 confirms the potential of the mix to break new artists. Many of the unknown cuts on Body Language 1 went onto become club staples including Lindstrom's I Feel Space, Slam's This World and James Holden's remix of André Kraml Safari.

Body Language Vol. 2 is indicative of pretty much everything that is great about European electronic music Indeed, the mood is celebratory and emotional and, as importantly, it's hard for even the most casual listener as well as the hardened house and techno trainspotter not to be seduced by this mix. It's possible to enjoy this mix on a hot beach as much as you could in a sweaty basement club and that says it all about Body Language 2 -it's music for the head, heart and feet for house music lovers all over the world..

Ben Watt - Buzzin' Fly Volume 3

One of the most anticipated releases of the year & the third in Ben Watt’s acclaimed best selling mix series.

Features seventy deeply evocative minutes of exclusives and hidden gems culled largely from his own super hot label, threaded with Watt’s affecting unreleased spoken word stories.

Now three years old, Buzzin' Fly is one of the UK's most successful dance independents, a home for Watt's own club productions but mainly a breeding ground for impressive young first-time talent such as Justin Martin, Rodamaal, Manoo and Francois A, Kayot, Darkmountaingroup.

The label has effortlessly absorbed the recent abrasive minimalist and electro challenge to its early deep melodic roots. Ben Watt now seen as a leading tastemaking DJ and A&R guru straddling boundaries and genres.

Recent cuts from Moscow's Kayot and Lisbon's Darkmountaingroup have moved floors and minds for the label's longtime deep house supporters but critically, for the imprint's ascendancy, for East London and Berlin's darker and more progressive DJs too.

It's a show of the esteem in which he holds his roster that three-quarters of the mix is comprised of Buzzin' Fly artists, each track notable for its variety and diversity. But it is perhaps the emotional tug of Watt's own writing and production that threads the seventy minutes together so uniquely.

It is an evocative original style – part artist-album, part mix album – whose origins go back to Volume 2 and the impact of Watts classic speak-song Estelle collaboration, "Pop A Cap In Yo! Ass!.

Beautifully paced, with a superb gear-shift midway through to escape the clamouring pulse of the early cuts into the spatial atmospheres of Tejada and Madoka, right through to the moving still-water ending, the mixing is always musical, propulsive and seamless. Melodic, honest and at times painfully melancholic, yet throroughly crisp and modern, this is surely the work of a DJ and label chief at the top of his game!

Features exclusive new Ben Watt track, ‘Old Soul’ featuring cult Philly MC, Baby Blak (DJ Jazzy Jeff).· and unreleased extracts from his acclaimed spoken word project ‘Outspoken’ .

Also includes Ben Watt’s exclusive 2005 classic, ‘Attack Attack Attack’·and 4 unreleased brand new upcoming Buzzin’ Fly tracks .

 Reel People - Second Guess

Reel People re-write the musical rulebook combining the finest traditions of 70s soul and boogie with modern broken beat and house elements, Reel People are a unique phenomenon in the current musical landscape . . And it just got better.

Now picked up by Defected, this re-release comes with fresh new material and a bonus disc of exclusive live tracks and remixes

Forget everything you thought you knew about dance music. Forget everything you've been told about UK produced soul. Forget your doubts that an act from the cool London underground could ever crossover into mainstream acceptance; Reel People are here and with debut album "Second Guess" they're about to rewrite the rulebook.

Originally released as a limited edition run on UK based Papa Records in late 2003 "Second Guess" gained stand-out reviews in most major publications and received heavy club support, thanks not least to four unforgettable singles plucked from the collection 'Can't Stop', 'Butterflies', 'Second Guess' and 'The Light'.

Utilising the awesome vocal talents of Vanessa Freeman (Chilli Funk), Angela Johnson (Cooly's Hot Box), Dyanna Fearon (D-Influence) and relative newcomer Jag, "Second Guess" delivered a set of infectious songs that unified soul aficionados and house music fanatics alike.
Special guest appearances by producers Phil Asher (Restless Soul), Domu (Sonar Kollectiv), Seiji and Afronaut (Bugz In The Attic) also lent "Second Guess" a not-to-be bettered production calibre, assisting Reel People in their goal to produce the best possible album attainable.

Fusing expert song crafting skills with tight, contemporary production, marrying accomplished musicianship with an urgency that holds the dancefloor's attention, combining the finest traditions of 70s soul and boogie with modern broken beat and house elements, Reel People are a unique phenomenon in the current musical landscape.

After re-examining their mission statement, and under the careful nurturing of their new home - Defected Records - Reel People have taken a second look at "Second Guess" and introduced three brand new tracks that are set to rekindle the album's fire and ignite dancefloors all over again.

Lead single "The Rain" features the stunning vocals of Sharlene Hector (Basement Jaxx) and is already a huge favourite amongst the lucky few DJs who received copies during it's limited initial mail out. Second single "In The Sun" is a wonderfully adventurous, multi-layered dancefloor juggernaut. Reminiscent of P-Funk's best moments, but with a vibe that you couldn't mistake for anybody but Reel People, the song could quite possibly be their finest moment to date. The new presentation is completed by a cover version of the Thelma Houston classic "You Used To Hold Me So Tight", the latter two tracks both recorded with vocalist Angela Johnson.

Couple these new additions to an already incendiary collection of hook-laden songs and herein you will find that rarest of things; a timeless soul album, as relevant on today's re-release as it will be in a decade's time.
Bear witness people, the second coming of "Second Guess" is upon us.

NGV SOUNDS VOL IV - BRITISH SOUL DESIGN

British Soul Design is a musical reflection that mirror’s Dod Proctor’s compelling 1919 portraiture ‘In a Strange Land’. An aural journey that carries the listener through timeless elegance & across geographical soundscapes. From Nottingham to Norwich, Sheffield to Somerset and beyond, this compilation is a snapshot of a 21st century British soul scene, with a sound that is at once aesthetically compelling, sophisticated and passionate.

The NGV’s holdings of British art are the finest of any museum in Australia. The works range from elegant 18th century conversation pieces, soulful Pre-Raphaelite paintings to charmingly candid Victorian era narrative works. In the 20th century the visual arts helped define modern Britain, reflecting its cultural diversity in paintings, sculpture, photography and fashion, and outstanding examples of this modern British style including art of the 21st century can also be seen at the NGV.

This collection of British artists runs a long lineage of sounds and styles that draws its roots from Billie’s blues, the gospel soul of Aretha, the energy of James and the P-Funk of George. Fast forward to 2005 and discover that Speedometer has recovered the sound of an original funk 45, but with the sweet grit of a Northern soul gem and it all makes sense. Each track offers something unexpected yet familiar - classy Euro style production, Afro beats, sultry and soulful grooves play with the lightest of vocal nuances and delivery. This is the place where dirty funk meets nu-soul and jazz is matched with an ever present tipping of the hat to electro-breaks and London’s urban sound.

It’s time to make your acquaintance with the new sound of some future British soul classics.

With international appeal from house to soulful sounds, and down beat, dubs and laid back grooves. The CD showcases two acts from across the country, with the flow of the CD carefully considered for entire play. The sound is fresh, cutting edge and can be played in full, revealing new sounds and acts to a wider audience. Information on each act is included in the cards.

For the first time a full set of 52 cards of the best bars across Australia, including the best from Hobart, Adelaide and Perth; each card has a picture of the bar, days open, description plus a map on the back showing how to find it.

A beautifully packaged CD that is just as lush to the ears as it is to the eyes.

 Tokyo Project - Introduction

Tokyo Project - Introduction is the first release from the new label adventure from Hed Kandi's Mark Doyle, and internationally-celebrated Hed Kandi graphic illustrator, Jason Brooks.

Tokyo Project - Introduction is an exclusive 14 track mix which previews the first examples of Tokyo Project's own repertoire . Compiled and mixed by the Mark Doyle, this selection is an introduction to his independent new label and this is the first time he unleashes these amazing new tracks.

The sampler features a selection of future classics and is brimming with top quality uplifting house numbers: tracks like Discrete - Love Me, a classic U.S. style piano-driven house anthem from Tokyo producer, Eric Kupper, and loaded with fiercely soulful vocals from Belle Erskine, to The Montana's - Love Just Found Me (from the production team that brought you Morjac & Marly), this track might just be a contender for crossover club hit of summer 2006.

*Keeping that upbeat disco vibe alive is the defining sound of Tokyo Project: Fac 15 - Haven't You Heard. Set to be one of the first singles released by Tokyo, it combines live strings, amazing production and Cathi Ogden's stunning vocal to incendiary effect.

Tokyo has a slightly tougher side too though. It's demonstrated by tracks like Isaac James - BodyBody, the long-awaited follow up to 'Baby Likes It' is a true Tokyo dancefloor stormer and this electro-tinged mix is provided by Dirty South complete with electric guitar lines and a cool catchy vocal hook.

Whether it's the peak-time, big room vocal crossover hit or super-credible deeper stuff that you're after, the selection here definitely won't disappoint.
