 The Shapeshifters

When Shapeshifters, aka Simon Marlin and Max Reich, put out a few promo copies of their debut single at the end of 2003, an instrumental track entitled ‘Lola’s Theme’ (inspired by Lola, Simon’s wife), little did they realise exactly how well it would be received. It’s funky groove, lush strings, and uplifting vibe proved irresistible. The underground buzz over a handful of copies soon became a tidal wave of fevered discussion and anticipation. DJ’s, music fans, and clubbers across the world clamoured for a copy or at least a listen of the track from dance music’s hottest new band.

Both Simon and Max have been friends for several years and have dedicated a good chunk of their lives to their main love – music. Simon is head of house label, Nocturnal Groove, and it’s club night, Nocturnal, at London’s AKA/The End. Originally from Sweden, Max started producing techno and Djing with the likes of Carl Cox and Laurent Garnier at the tender age of 14. More recent tracks such as Fused’s ‘Terror’, artist releases on Bush, and the highly acclaimed artist album, Swedish Workout, have kept him in the spotlight; and his remixes for Faithless, Moloko, Rhinocerose, have ensured him plenty of dancefloor appeal.
