 Peter McNamara

Peter "Mona" McNamara first started mixing records, not for love or interest - but by necessity.

"In 1986, I was working behind the bar at the Laird Hotel and one night, one of the DJ's didn't show up..."

Spending hours labouring over the decks after closing time, Peter eventually landed his first residency - at the Laird Hotel! Soon after, word got around and he was invited to play his first warehouse party - The ALSO Foundations' New Years Eve 1989.

Who was your first major influence as a DJ?
"The late great David 'Kitty' Kelly..."

Peter soon expanded his residencies to include some of Melbourne's finest and most respected underground clubs, Monkey, Tasty & Freakazoid gave him the vehicle to pursue the sound that he is known and recognised for today.

What are some of the biggest and most memorable parties you have played?
"Sleaze Ball (twice), Mardi Gras (many times!), Red Raw, Two Tribes, Summadayze and Adelaide's Sleaze Ball..."

Where are you playing at the moment?
44 and Q Bar on Saturdays, Viper and Room, occasionally The Market and I am a resident at CHEEKY..."

Peter McNamara has long been recognised as one of Australia's finest - he has twice been voted "God of the Dancefloor" at the Diva Awards, a number of Pride Awards hidden amongst his record crates and a selection of critically acclaimed CD's on his resume including Glad to be Gay, SIN (ALSO Foundation), Monkey - Call of the Wild, Monkey - Jungle Juice and another project that he's currently working on for release later in the year.

Now comes the natural progression - production!
"I have enrolled to study at the School of Audio Engineering with Frisky, my good and one of the best of Melbourne's new breed of DJ's...we can't wait to get into the studio and start making our own music..."

Peter is also half of the Deep Bitch Boys and has also recently starting exploring using four turntables and two mixers again with Frisky at 44's "wet+deep_house progressions".

Peter "Mona" McNamara - the "Godmother of House...."
