Take
a trip around the world in a weekend!
1st
to 3rd October 2004
This
annual multi-cultural/multi-arts festival celebrates contemporary
Australian culture in a paradisiacal setting.
Held
each Labour-Day long weekend, it kicks off at dusk on Friday and
runs all weekend. The Bellingen Global Carnival is the largest annual
event in the region, growing at 15% per annum and featuring an extremely
broad program of music. This year the spectrum of its program is
as diverse as acclaimed indigenous singer/songwriter Archie Roach
at one end, and the outrageous Resin Dogs on the other.
The
Bellingen Global Carnival showcases high quality and innovative
contemporary, traditional, classical & electronic music. The
2004 event features (at last count) over 250 performers and also
includes: Aboriginal didge master Mark Atkins; young Aussie/Egyptian
oud sensation Joseph Tawadros; Latin American big band Mi Tierra;
Perth's Cajun favourites Cahoots; Latin jazz/funk band Matanza;
Brisbane gypsy group Doch; Afro-Caribbean trio Zebra Crossing; Sydney
hip-hop outfit Good Buddha; Melbourne dub kings The Red Eyes; Andean
traditionalists Inka Marka; Bulgarian vocalists Zhiva Voda; Kurdish/Hindustani
group Heval; Tibet's Tenzin Choegyal; guitar wizard Bruce Mathiske;
and many more.
In
2004, the Electro Village, the electronic component of the festival,
has been extended to a 3 day outdoor all day party, which will run
during Friday evening and then Saturday and Sunday from midday to
midnight. Dance for three days to the best beats in the bush as
the Electro Village delivers electronica from the edge from local
and interstate djs. Why dance for one night when you can dance for
3 days? The Electro Village will feature 2 Dogs, Momentum djs Alf
& Lucian, Jouzy & Strut and many others. The Electro Village,
with enhanced production and décor, will replace the festival
finale 'Global Party' as we strengthen our commitment to the electronic
music community by delivering three days of solid electronic music.
